America’s 23 Critical Work Skills

Do You Have Them?

As a manager or leader is your organization asking you to do more and more with less and less? Are you trying to get every drop of potential out of every employee? How is it going? Pretty tough isn’t it? As if that isn’t enough you hear every day how important it is to "retain" employees so as to not lose the investment you made in training them and getting them up to speed!

Or, you have an employee that is just on the verge of breaking through and as a manager you just can’t put your finger on what it is they need to take the next step ... and they leave because they are frustrated. What a loss of time and energy and resources. If only we could accurately measure the "critical work skills" of our employees and prospective employees to know for certain the talent they bring to the workplace! If only we could know the exact skills necessary to excel at every job position! If only we could measure what the job takes, what the employee or prospective employee has and chart a course to guarantee their success! If we could do that... we would be considered a leadership guru wouldn’t we?

Well... we can do that! The 23 Critical Work Skills Assessment measures an employee, or prospective employee’s, mastery of 23 diverse workplace skills (see below for the 23 skills). Part of this outstanding software collection includes the ability to predict the skills that lead to success in any particular job and then allows us to compare one to the other. Then we can invest in the skills that guarantee the employee will be ultimately successful. Just imagine...

The Personal Critical Skills Indicator ranks the 23 Critical Skills into three categories; Mastered, Some Mastery, Not Yet Mastered. While critical skills are certainly important for career development, it is not necessary to master every one. In fact, mastery of a critical skill may not benefit your career if it isn't required in your current job. In order to optimize your career potential, it is best to focus your development efforts on the critical skills that are required in your current job, or the job you want.
